Policy Owner: University Commons
Effective Date: 11/1/85
- PURPOSE
- POLICY/GUIDELINES
- Decorations may be used in all rooms within the Commons Complex. However, when decorations are to be suspended from the ceiling, prior approval must be obtained from Commons staff. Ceiling decorations are not permitted in the Cafeteria. Approval must be received from Commons supervisory personnel before any new hooks/nails are driven into the walls or ceiling. Any exceptions must have the approval of the Commons Manager.
- Masking tape and other types of tape may not be used on any painted surfaces; however, tape may be used on brick surfaces and metal window casings. Only approved substances (e.g., poster putty such as "Funtak Reusable Adhesive" which is available at the Bookstore) may be used on painted or paneled surfaces. Nothing may be attached to or hung from window coverings.
- Blinds may not be raised and/or lowered without the approval and supervision of Commons staff.
- Decorations may not be adhered to light fixtures nor may light fixtures be covered or wrapped with any materials.
- Furniture/carpets/tables may be moved only with the supervision and assistance of Commons staff. Furnishings may not be removed from the lounges/conference rooms unless prior approval from the Commons Manager has been received.
- All decorations must be removed immediately after the event. If an organization chooses not to remove their decorations and/or reset the room, they will be charged a fee of $15.00 per hour.
- The user is responsible for any damage to the facility and/or furnishings beyond normal wear and tear. Any damage will be billed to the user.
The Commons decorating policy was established in order to provide guidelines to users of the facilities within the Commons Complex. The purpose of the policy is to ensure a high standard of maintenance so as to make the Commons facilities attractive and useful to the campus community, and to provide a safe environment during the many events held throughout the year.
Questions should be referred to the Non-Academic Scheduling Office.
