- FUNCTION
- OFFICE ORGANIZATION
- Building construction and alterations, site development, handicapped facilities, campus landscape and graphics, and interior design.
- Mechanical, electrical and structural systems in buildings and distribution systems campus-wide.
- Construction inspection to assure conformance to contract documents.
- Administrative services to handle clerical and fiscal affairs related to the office function.
- CONSTRUCTION PLANS OF CAMPUS BUILDINGS AND FACILITIES
- The Office of Planning, Design and Construction is the repository and office of record for all plans of campus facilities that have been constructed or developed since 1917.
- Copies of specific plans are available on a recharge basis upon request to individuals or departments having a legitimate need of them.
- RELATIONSHIP TO OTHER DEPARTMENTS WITHIN THE VCA UNIT
- SERVICES
- Architectural - Advises on architectural matters related to building construction and alterations including interior
design and graphics.
- Mechanical Engineering - Advises on air conditioning, heating, ventilating and plumbing. The maintenance and operation of all existing mechanical systems are the responsibility of Physical Plant.
- Electrical Engineering - Advises on matters concerning electrical, telephone, fire alarm, lighting and communications systems. Maintenance and operation of the systems are the responsibility of Physical Plant and the Telecommunications Office.
- Structural Engineering - Advises on structural adequacy of buildings and facilities to withstand imposed loads. Also evaluates any requested change in buildings which proposes the removal of partitions or other structural members.
- Site Development - Advises on site development including grading, drainage, plant materials, sprinkler systems, paths and walks, roads, lighting and parking lot design. Maintenance of landscaped areas and parking lots are the responsibility of Physical Plant.
- Inspection - Provides construction inspection to assure conformance to contract plans and specifications.
- Site Approval - Advises on the use of any site on campus for construction purposes and prepares drawings and other documentation necessary to submit proposals to the Office of the President/Regents.
- Grant Coordination - Advises on and coordinates the submission of drawings and documents for generating Federal, State, local and private facilities grants. Drawings are also prepared to indicate the intended use of space in a Federally assisted project for policing the grant. Review research grants and project for policing the grant. Review research grants and advise on feasibility of any proposed alterations or additions to the physical facilities included in the grant proposal.

The Office of Planning, Design and Construction has primary responsibility for the planning, design and construction of the physical facilities of the campus, and the administration of all construction projects including the implementation of the University's Major and Minor Capital Improvement Program. Advice on all architectural, structural, landscape architectural, mechanical and electrical services may be obtained by calling extension 4201. These services are generally provided on a recharge basis.

The Office of Planning, Design and Construction provides representation on Project Development Teams (PDT) as required which includes team members from the Environmental Health and Safety, Materiel Management, Media Resources, Physical Plant, Parking Services, Police Department, Accounting, Academic Planning & Budget and Computing and Communications. Members of the PDT come together to ensure coordination and delivery of services to clients to fulfill their mission.
